AAMT activities and projects
From time to time, the AAMT undertakes specific research and development projects in mathematics education.
These projects may focus on professional development, curriculum development, resource development and the provision of program and policy advice to government, often in collaboration with other organisations. Representing views of teachers of mathematics
AAMT is the national voice of the mathematics teaching profession. This section of the website is used for consultation with members during the development of AAMT position papers, submissions to outside organisations and other formal statements.
Make it Count: Numeracy, mathematics and Indigenous learners
With funding from the Australian Government, AAMT has established this four year project to develop an evidence base of practices that improve Indigenous students' learning in mathematics and numeracy.
National Literacy and Numeracy Week - "Reach for the Stars"
AAMT has conducted Australia-wide activities for schools as part of National Literacy and Numeracy Week since 2003.
National Mathematics Talent Quest
The National Mathematics Talent Quest (NMTQ) brings together the winners of state and territory competitions which recognise students' work on extended mathematical projects.
National Mathematics Summer School
The National Mathematics Summer School (NMSS) is a program for the discovery and development of mathematically gifted and talented students from all over Australia.
Consumer and Financial Literacy
A project to provide advice to the Australian Securities and Investment Commission (ASIC) on the promotion and support of Consumer and Financial Literacy in the context of the development and implementation of the Australian Curriculum: Mathematics.
Online Professional Learning
The Council of the AAMT is developing a range of initiatives over a 2-3 year period to explore and enhance the ways the AAMT — and state and territory mathematics teacher associations — use online means for teacher professional learning.

Recognising Excellence: HAToM Candidates from the Catholic Education Office of Melbourne
The Catholic Education Office of Melbourne is supporting around 50 of its teachers to be assessed against the AAMT Standards for Excellence in Teaching Mathematics in Australian Schools over a five year period.
